CHARACTER INFO
NAME: Miya AtsumuSERIES: Haikyuu!!
CANON POINT: Shortly after his brother tells him he's quitting volleyball after high school
AGE: 17
CHARACTER SUMMARY: Atsumu is a very driven young man with an extremely competitive nature. At a young age he fixated on volleyball, and threw all of himself into getting better at the sport, even when others, like his twin brother, had a more natural affinity for it. All that determination and drive paid off in making him one of the players to beat in his age bracket, and setting him up as one of the rivals to the main characters.
Though he's cocky and rude, he's also not so egotistical that he refuses to acknowledge the skill of a rival who proves themself to him. As much as he hates to lose, his love of the competition means he finds excitement in opponents that force him to push himself past previous limits. Hyper-focused as he is, his creativity tends to come out in very specific ways, but Atsumu is excellent at testing his own capabilities and tackling problems from different angles.
POWERS: None
GAME INFO
ASPECTS: Harbinger: The positives and negatives of this aspect fit Atsumu pretty much to a T. The perseverance and drive that is part of it really highlights some of his best traits, and the arrogance that can be part of it also highlights some of his worst ones. His biggest joys in life include self-improvement in the areas that matter specifically to him, and relishing in the fruits of his labor when things pay off.Savant: While Atsumu is not intellectually focused in the classical sense, he delights in testing and trying out new methods and skills in a way that fits well with the Savant. He's driven towards perfectionism in his areas of interest, which is what allowed him to surpass most of the kids his age in his sport of choice.
ANTICIPATED FACTION: Zenith: Atsumu is an unusual case here. He doesn't particularly mesh well with the goals and beliefs expressed by Yima, but because of his time in Horos he felt the death of his world in such a real and visceral way that it feels hard to believe it can just be put back together. He's also always been one to look forward toward the future rather than navel-gazing back at the past.
More importantly, he's seen displays of Yima's power already, without her using threats or coercive measures to make him join her. Beyond snagging him out of yet another dying world, she managed to snatch his brother's soul from the time stream. Without a real sense of what goes into remaking the universe, her power seems to him like the best shot at a continued existence. Whatever shape that continuation might take.
The chances are not zero that at some point he could be swayed to the Meridian side, but for now he'll stand by his initial choice to help Yima.
SUITABILITY: I have probably overused the word driven in this short app, but I'll reiterate it one more time, because that's the main thing he can bring to the game. Atsumu is from a very normal world, and despite being something of a minor celebrity in the world of high school sports, he's also a very normal boy. He doesn't have any grandiose powers, or incredible experiences that would allow him to offer great insight into what his chosen faction should do moving forward. What he has is determination and grit, and the ability to keep pushing himself forward despite everything. As he starts to find his footing and feel less powerless, he'll push himself more and more into jumping head first into whatever mission or tasks are suggested by his faction leader, with a high chance of swerving to do his own thing from time to time. At least, if he thinks it might pay off in the end.
Atsumu thrives when he has goals in mind, and remaking a dying universe sure is a lofty one! Besides, being able to focus and be proactive will do wonders for keeping his mind off of the crushing reality of his situation.
